Avatar director James Cameron has smashed the upcoming Battleship movie by claiming that it “degrades cinema” and also said that he believes that the plan of adapting a classic board game into a sci-fi blockbuster is ridiculous.
The Avatar director said, in an interview with Spiegel Online,
“We have a story disaster. Now they want to make the ‘Battleship’ entertainment into a film. This is pure distraction.
Everyone in Hollywood knows how important it is that a film is a make before it hit theaters. If a brand has been around, Harry Potter for example, or Spider-Man, you are glow years ahead.
And there lies the trouble. Because unhappily these franchises are becoming more ridiculous. This degrades the cinema.”
Cameron was recently annoyed with Piranha 3D describing it as “the bottom of the barrel” but now it seems it will have to create room for the Battleship movie.
Quite what Cameron will have to say about the future Monopoly movie is anyone’s guess but I bet it won’t be printable without a few asterisks.
