The British actor Henry Cavill cast as Superman

NEW YORK – British actor Henry Cavill is going up, up and away.

Cavill will star as Superman (and, visibly, Clark Kent) in the next payment of the movie franchise.

Warner Bros. films announced the casting Sunday.

The film is to be directed by "300" director Zack Snyder, who says in a announcement Cavill is "the perfect selection to don the cape and `S' shield."

No label has been announced for the film, which is intended to reboot the franchise after its latest incarnation fizzled.

The 2006 movie "Superman Returns" was directed by Bryan Singer and starred Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel.
Cavill is fairly unknown.

He had been measured for the blockbuster roles of Batman, James Bond and even the previous version of Superman.

He co starred on Showtime's "The Tudors."
Warner Bros. is targeting to release on December 2012.

Avatar Director James Cameron Says Battleship Movie demotes Cinema

Avatar director James Cameron has smashed the upcoming Battleship movie by claiming that it “degrades cinema” and also said that he believes that the plan of adapting a classic board game into a sci-fi blockbuster is ridiculous.

The Avatar director said, in an interview with Spiegel Online,

“We have a story disaster. Now they want to make the ‘Battleship’ entertainment into a film. This is pure distraction.

Everyone in Hollywood knows how important it is that a film is a make before it hit theaters. If a brand has been around, Harry Potter for example, or Spider-Man, you are glow years ahead.

And there lies the trouble. Because unhappily these franchises are becoming more ridiculous. This degrades the cinema.”

Cameron was recently annoyed with Piranha 3D describing it as “the bottom of the barrel” but now it seems it will have to create room for the Battleship movie.

Quite what Cameron will have to say about the future Monopoly movie is anyone’s guess but I bet it won’t be printable without a few asterisks.
